There are some people who just lucked-out in life, and Cara Delevingne happens to be one of them.

She has (arguably) the world’s best brows, hangs out with fashion’s finest (King Karl, the Kardashian-West powerhouse, Kate Moss, and every other model who’s made it, pretty much) and actually has personality. Like, the kind of personality that 10.5 million people choose to follow on Instagram.

But let’s take a moment to appreciate something that often takes a backseat to all of the above – that creamy, British complexion. God damn, it’s good.

Now, before you lose your sh*t, we’re not saying we can make you look like Cara Delevingne. We can’t – sorry. Neither can surgery or a life supply of brow serum. But what we can do is show you exactly how to mimic her perfect skin on yourself.

Why?

Because the dude who creates it on set (i.e. Lloyd Simmonds, YSL Beauté’s Creative Director of Makeup, FYI) told us how he does her make-up (in detail) and what he uses.

… And now we’re going to show you because these are the kind of tips you can’t find on wikihow.com. Trust us when we say you only learn stuff this good from the big guns.

If your skin is even slightly dry to begin with, moisturise.

Oilier skin doesn’t need anything at all (this foundation absorbs 4 times its weight in oil, so skip the primer, too).

Fill the quill.

‘You don’t need very much’, Simmonds says.

‘What’s on the quill is enough for any general application’.

Place a dot onto your face where needed – one on each cheek, the forehead and chin, Simmonds suggests.

If you need more coverage, apply a few extra dots here and there but don’t get over-excited.

‘Foundation application should be minimal’, Simmonds says.

 

Then blend using your fingers.

‘Work fast,’ Simmonds says.

‘I usually start from the bottom, in the centre, and work up. You need the coverage in the centre but less around the outside. That’s what makes you look real – when you have real skin showing through’.

Now apply Touche Éclat under the eyes, around the nose and to the top of the cheekbones.

‘Touche Éclat is for adding light – not shimmer. So put it wherever there’s a natural shadow and blend it with your fingers’.

FYI, it doesn’t matter if you draw it on in lines or dots. Both work. The important part is to make it quick so you can blend it seamlessly with the foundation.

On Cara, Simmonds also puts it on the cupid’s bow and just under the lips.

‘It adds a bit of volume’ he says.

Yep, we’ll be doing that from now on.

That’s actually it.

No powder, no primer, nothing.
