Here’s the thing about wearing it though, it’s a statement; and our advice is to wear it like you would a Celine gold choker in the day…dress it down, ladies.
But it’s not always that simple, and a plum lip can often feel slightly intimidating, so in the name of helping a sister out, we’ve decided to give you a few easy styling tips to give you that extra motivation to wear it. And own it.

A black tee and piercings. Tick. Throw on a softly-softly hit of mascara as a final touch.
Lip tip: Use a lip pencil slightly darker than your lipstick, line the lips and softy colour in just a few millimetres inside, keeping the centre liner-free. This creates a vampy-like shadow to work with that won’t bleed out.
Sleeping in your makeup is a cardinal skin sin, we know. But sometimes slept-in-smudge just looks better… like second day hair = the perfect accessory to a plum lip. Style it back with a white shirt. Keep it simple so the lip speaks for itself.
Lip tip: Prep with some lip balm so there’s moisture – just enough to make your lipstick move, and to hide any dryness.
Apply your matte colour to the centre of your lips, and up towards the peaks. Then, using your finger, use circular movements to blend the colour out towards the edges- don’t stress if it bleeds out a little, that’s the vibe. Blot. Repeat if you feel the need to add more. The best part about this look is it’s best worn naked or with a tinted moisturiser/luminiser.
Voila! Lived-in lips like your favourite 501s.

Lip tip: Here’s how you make a matte lip stay: lightly powder over the top of your base coat then repeat the application process and blotting again. Instant staying power.
Finish off by dabbing on a cream-based eyeshadow or bronzer over your eyes (nothing too intense) and a swish of mascara. Tip: Blondes, pull back the vamp by using brown mascara – it’s less overpowering and looks less…done.
Double denim wins every time. Current vibe: meh? CBF’d to wear a full face? “Casual hangs” with that guy you met on Saturday night. Solution: Plum lip.
