Jin Soon Choi was the name to know in nails at NYFW. This is a lady who keeps good company – Rag & Bone, Marc Jacobs and Derek Lam all tapped the manicure mega to do the models’ nails at their shows.

We’re always on the hunt for ways to branch out in the nail department… what can we say? We get bored quickly. Luckily, we stumbled across Jin Soon’s nails for Tibi (aptly named ‘snow-tipped’) while we were mid-stalk on STYLE.COM, and let’s just say they got us a little bit excited.

So excited, actually, that we decided to try our own rendition.

Jin Soon’s army painted Tibi’s uneven swishes of white freehanded, but we’re going for something a bit easier (i.e. something that uses stencils so absolutely no expertise is required whatsoever).

… Introducing upside down half-moon nails. Think of it like the classic French manicure reinvented and made cool again.

Warning: this requires two out of five stars for effort, but if it makes your nails look this good, we think it’s well worth it.

Paint half of your nails with white.

Don’t worry about getting it neat, you’re going to take most of it off soon anyway.

step 1

Wait (we said WAIT) for them to dry completely. This is going to make your life way easier in the next steps.

Now you will need binder reinforcement stickers (available at any good news agency). Cut some in half – straight through the middle.

Once the white is 100% dry, place a sticker on the end of each nail to create the ‘moon’ shape.

Make sure the stickers are pressed down right to the edges.

Soak a cotton pad in nail polish remover and rub over the nail.

Be careful while removing polish at the tip – you want the white to remain under the sticker.

Peel the stickers off once you’re done.

Finish with a double coating of a high-shine topcoat.
