Raise your hand high if your hair is feeling loveless, lacklustre, and limp. Had this command been directed my way five days ago, my left hand would have been touching the bloody roof. Now it’s here, typing about how my locks have managed to overcome those dreaded three Ls within such a tiny passage of time. Spoiler alert: It’s all thanks to this Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste.

Have I told you guys that I’m currently growing out a decade’s worth of regrowth? Maybe once or twice?

ICYMI, I haven’t coloured my hair since November 8 last year – a date you might remember from such disastrous news headlines as “The United States Of America Elects Donald Trump As Their 45th President”. Maybe I was subconsciously trying to reduce the likeness of my own hair colour to that of the ~convincing~ toupée dutifully keeping Donald’s head warm. Maybe I took a look at my battered bank account, or my blood-splotched scalp, and thought, “Enough is enough!”. For whatever since-forgotten reason, I decided this was going to be the last time I’d slap bleach on my scalp for a while. Six months, the duration of Don’s presidency, ‘till my dying days – however long I could survive the heinous process of growing out bleach. But that’s a convo for another day, so be sure to watch this space.

Aside from the unavoidable 90s grunge gal effect of growing out white blonde on mousey brown hair, a lack of colour meant a lack of texture for my fine hair. Praise be to the magical team at Que Colour, who introduced me to Christophe’s brand spanking new product – The Cleansing Volumizing Paste – last Friday night. Alongside the best blow dry of my youngish life, no less.

The Volumizing Paste is the first of its kind, making it a pretty damn special product to get acquainted with, especially if your hair is fine and lacks density. This formula of 85% natural origin mixes mineral clay with protective rose extracts and limnanthes. Let’s start with the hero ingredient, rassoul. Found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, the clay has long-been used in some of our favourite ever skincare products to purify the skin, soak up surplus oil, improve texture, and break down durrt ‘n’ grime. And now, thanks to Christophe, it’s doing the same thing for our crowning glory. The rose extracts help to protect and soothe any scalp irritation, and the limnanthes round out the heavenly shampooing experience by preserving and enhancing your colour. Tick, tick, and tick.

The clay-to-foam shampoo is a true game-changer. At first glance, the gritty brown paste may be off-putting – especially if you’re applying it to blonde hair. Cast your concerns aside, though, ‘cause it transforms from a paste-like texture into a light foam within seconds. It’s actually fun to wash your hair using this magic stuff. As you massage it into your scalp, you can feel your hair expanding faster than the average waistline does at Christmas lunch. After using it for the first time, my scalp felt rejuvenated, and my hair looked thicker than it has since I discovered, and then abused, the concept of dry shampoo in New York City back in 2015. When used in conjunction with the Christophe Robin Volumizing Conditioner and the Christophe Robin Instant Volumizing Mist With Rose Water, I’m sure my hair could have done a better job at leading the U.S. than Donald Trump has. It looked and felt bouncy, shiny, and clean. On top of that, the amazing blow dry c/o the Que Colour team stayed put for days.

It’s time to wake up and smell the roses, you guys. Buy it here.

Words, Madeleine Woon.
