Anyone who’s been around the beauty PR circuit seems to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of every single product in existence. Which makes sense, given that a) it’s their job to be ~in the know~ and b) they’re constantly surrounded by the best products on the market. This is definitely true of Dermalogica’s angel-faced PR Manager, Carly Rogers. We’ve wanted to go behind-the-scenes of her skincare and beauty routine for as long as we can remember and, at long last, we did. Hallelujah!

A girl after our own heart, Carly is much more concerned with skincare than she is with makeup. On any given day, you can catch her inside on a Reddit spiral, researching the latest in skincare trends. She’s also got that au naturale make-up *lewk* on lockdown. As such, we asked her to give us her ~desert island~ products, and she came back with the goods. Thanks, legend!

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50

One

“I’m a complete skincare fangirl. I’ve got a maximum of 2.5 different makeup looks, and I am 100% cool with that. That said, if you’ve got a skincare question, I will happily discuss it in detail with you for hours on end. And I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t spent hours in various skincare forums (reddit.com/r/skincareaddiction is legit). I’m pretty new to P50, which makes me very late to the party on this one – you can tell by the online reviews how much of a cult favourite it is. It’s basically a leave-on, exfoliating lactic acid cleanser that’s meant to make you ridiculously glowy, even out your skin tone, and more. I’m only a week in, but it’s safe to say I’m converted. I’m a big fan of chemical exfoliants in general – they’re usually gentler and more effective than their physical counterparts, yet often overlooked.”

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Two

“I’ve been blessed with super-fun, super-hereditary under-eye bags. Despite what people like to say, they’re not the kind that will budge with any amount of beauty sleep (although admittedly, I could use some more of that), and they’ll probably be with me for life. (That said, I’ve just purchased a derma-roller in the hope of eliminating them – stay tuned.) In the meantime, this sweet baby angel gets me through. It’s the most pigmented, blend-able, perfect holy grail of a concealer, and it stays in place all day long. This is my desert island product, hands down. Well, this and a Dermalogica SPF50…”

OPI Samoan Sand Nail Polish

Three

“As any of my friends will tell you, I’m not really into colour. My wardrobe is almost completely black, white, and grey. The same goes for my nails – any time I paint them in a bright colour, chances are I’ll have the nail polish remover out by the end of the day. Samoan Sand is the perfect nude – it’s my daily go-to to look well-groomed without having anything too noticeable on my nails.”

Kevin Murphy Doo.Over

Four

“This product was introduced to me by Taryn at MOB Hair in Bondi, and it’s a serious game-changer. I’ve been skeptical about hair styling products my whole life because I never feel like anything really works that well for my fine, overly colour-treated hair. This stuff is a crazy/beautiful hybrid between dry shampoo and hairspray – it gives hair texture and grit, and somehow manages to hold perfect waves all day long.”

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque

Five

“So, obviously I’m a little biased, but I do use/love/worship a lot of Dermalogica products. You’ve probably heard of the favourites (PreCleanse and Daily Microfoliant forever), but this one gets a little less love than it should. It’s a delightfully moisturising mask that contains a number of hydrating ingredients, including my all-time favourite, hyaluronic acid. I’ve got dry-to-combination skin that suffers from dehydration, which means I’m always feeling pretty dry in patches. It gets to the point where my foundation doesn’t sit right, and I’d rather skip it altogether than risk an obviously uneven base. Since one of the girls in our education team passed on the secret, I now mix this in with my foundation every day, and it manages to keep my base perfectly even and hydrated (sans shine). If I’m feeling extra dry, I’ll also sleep in it, and it’s perfect for flights, as it’s clear! Heaven.”

RMS Living Luminizer

Six

“I remember I was wearing this product one day when I met some of my boyfriend’s friends for the first time. He told them I worked in the beauty industry, and they apparently said “she’s literally glowing.” I wish – it was actually just RMS. This product is all kinds of amazing. It gives the perfect amount of naturally highlighted, dewy skin without looking like a textbook highlighter (read: obvious makeup).”
