You’re probably familiar with Buro24/7. The fashion and culture sanctum was founded by diminutive Russian powerhouse Miraslava Duma, and was promulgated across Eastern Europe across the Middle East and now to Australia.

Rebecca Caratti is the Chosen One responsible for helming the first Antipodean edition and, as a decade-long fixture in Australian fashion as both an editor and stylist (and possible Natalie Imbruglia twin), she’s more than earned her stripes.

“My career highlight to date has been launching Buro in Australia and being able to work alongside and celebrate some of Australia’s greatest talent ranging from designers, academics, chefs, architects and artists. Our launch event at the Opera House was a night I will never forget!”

Her styling work has a signature aesthetic that melds high glamour with a spirited youthfulness, but her personal style has a less polished, easier elegance with a blend of masculine and feminine.

“My style is quite simple,” she says. “I invest in quality pieces – it’s all about really well constructed garments.” Then she casually lists off infallible maestros Phoebe Philo for Celine, Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton and Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent as favourite designers.

Her wardrobe houses an arsenal of chic worthy of a Bling Ring burglary, including incredible handed down gifts from her mother, including the Cartier Love bangles that she adores. “One was a gift from my mother,” she says. “The other actually belonged to her. They come with beautiful memories.”

Bec’s mother also features among her haul of early beauty memories, as does the silicon canvas upon which so many of our pre-teen makeup and hair inclinations were practiced. “I remember cutting all my Barbie dolls’ hair into bobs or pixie cuts and always wanting to give my mum a pedicure . . . random?”

But now, in her less-random post-teenage years, Rebecca leans more toward treatments than make-up.

“The older I get the less makeup I wear.” She told us. “I love the look of a clean, glowy, natural face – with my features enhanced rather than masked… I regularly see Melanie Grant – the skin guru [the acclaimed Sydney magician based in Double Bay]. She has literally changed my skin. I see her once a month and get treatments ranging from Omnilux to laser (I have pigmentation from years of sun worshipping).”

“I also get my brows shaped and tinted every 3 week by Kristin Fisher Eyebrows and have regular manis and pedis – usually every two weeks.”

Such is life as an editor.

It’s not all beauty treatments and Celine, though. Bec’s advice for anyone hoping to climb the fashion ranks is “work hard, be nice and take risks”, and her mantra is “It’s better to regret the things you do than you don’t do.”

“Cheesy,” she laughs. “But so true!”
