The Perfect Wing Woman

Let’s preface this by saying this is not a tubing mascara. It is not exactly a traditional mascara either. In fact, the genius thing here is, this mascara is finally delivering something actually new to the market.

Fara Homidi, the makeup and product development genius has reinvented Mascara, and possibly has set a whole new way in which we will be wearing it – and I for one am super excited about it.

The formula includes ingredients you wouldn’t typically see in a mascara, which are deeply conditioning and hydrating to give this iconic and striking ‘fresh out of the pool’ wet look that Fara set out to create.

The idea behind this was to enhance, and really draw attention to the eyes. In a world of no-mascara mascara, and playing it down, Fara stepped it up and was like why the F* not! Let’s be gorgeous, let’s have people look at our eyes and be captivated, let’s not be afraid to dress up and bring back the art (and fun) of makeup.

This mascara is the ultimate hype girl, for dates, for dinner, for parties, for pleasure – the inspiration is 2026. Bold, beautiful, and always fresh. There’s generally two camps – you either love and live by a tubing mascara, or you are not a fan at all, right? I think the thing that people love about a tubing mascara is, they don’t want any smudging. You don’t want raccoon eyes, you don’t want flaking. Typically, lashes that are not tubing, no matter what, you have one or a few of those effects – raccoon eyes or some smudging.

The reason why I’ve never resonated with tubing is because I like to continuously build. I personally like a really voluminous lash and I want to be able to bump up and refresh my mascara at midday. Let’s say I go to work, I put on one slick, and that’s my daytime look, and then I’m gonna go have a drink at 6 p.m –  I’m gonna bump them up, and tubing doesn’t allow you to continue to build whereas with a more typical mascara, you can build it more but even then it can be crunchy and difficult. The pool stick lash is super supple and soft to the touch, so you never get crunchy lashes. You can build it in the moment.

The first slick that you put on looks like that moment when you come out of the water. It’s a little glossy, a little piecey. It looks really clean and refreshed even as you continue to manipulate it, and build a little bit more, it becomes a little more velvety. The wand has a curve in it, so you can really get in there and build. The wand fibers are pretty rigid so as you continue to comb through, it really separates, volumises and lifts. It’s smudge-proof, doesn’t flake. The other thing that’s really remarkable is when it’s on, it’s on, but if it gets on to your skin you literally can just remove it with some water and it comes off so easy. It literally removes with warm water – no rubbing.

Yes there’s an ingredient in it called pink pepper extract, it’s a vegetable ingredient and it tints your lashes over time. Your lashes aren’t going to be stark black over time, but it does darken them to a dark black brown. There are a lot of people, like myself, whose lashes are darker at the base and as you get to the tips are almost blonde. When I don’t have mascara on, my lashes look a lot shorter than they are, so this is a great thing as it has been tinting my lashes from root to tip subtly, so even when i don’t have mascara on, they look a little fuller and more pronounced. We also used plankton extract, a really powerful ingredient which is clinically proven to make your lashes fuller over time.

Not that I’m recommending this – but I have fallen asleep in this mascara, and I don’t feel bad about it as I know it’s not crunchy and i’m not going to get breakage. I know that the ingredients are working towards making my lashes healthier.

Specifically a butter we used that is used in a lot of hair care products because it’s really good at smoothing the follicle and conditioning the hair – and so I wanted that in my formula. Then there’s also pomegranate seed oil, that’s really nourishing. I think packing it with these butters and oils, is not really super typical for a mascara because it does create a bit of a wetter formula, but because I was going for that look (and it’s good for the hairs), these ingredients made a difference in what the formula look and performance is.

I actually started working on this formula before the brand had even launched, and have just been working on it, and working on it and chipping away at getting all the things that had to hit all the marks for me, which is like all the things I was just telling you. I want it to be buildable. I love a voluminous lash. Really, mascara is the most technical, the most difficult.

The wiper, to the formula, how much it wipes off ,to how rigid the fibers on your wand are, the shape of it – even if the stem of the wand itself has any bend then the formula will apply differently. There are so many factors, so really getting it right was important to me. I really took my time, I wanted the packaging to be fully recyclable, because it’s got to be perfect on every level.

I actually am someone who loves mascara on the top and the bottom, and that’s sort of like that 60s, 70s vibe. As I’ve gotten older, having a black mascara on the top and black mascara on the bottom has actually made me feel like it’s a little too severe. It maybe tightens my eye a little bit instead of opening them up ,and but I love that look but as my face has changed, my techniques changed a little bit too, so lately I’ve been doing the cabana on the bottom which is the softer brown shade which also gives you like a little bit of smokiness under the eye because the lashes are brown it looks like a little smokier, and then I’ll do the absolute black on the top and I’ve been able to then get like the best of both worlds because I do really love that 60s, 70s look.

First, there’s an ample amount of product on the brush as you pull it out. So I would say do not re-dip until you absolutely think you need to. Your first slick is going to lift. It’s going to give you that ‘just out of pool’ lash, and it’s going to give you some volume, but it will look a little bit more on the clean natural side. Then, if you want more oomph, I would still not re-dip but just use what’s on the wand and keep manipulating it because that wand and the formula really pulls your lashes up – so you can get a little more drama. Even using the back side of the wand gives you like a little bit of a different finish, so feel free to play with it.

Sometimes people see mascara as something to do in two seconds, and I actually think the art of mascara is so important to how you want to look. Spending that time and having fun with it would be my tip. You can get so many different finishes with how you use the brush. Do you pull your lashes more outwards towards the side because you like a little more of like a bedroom lash? Do you need a little bit more emphasis towards the center because you want to open the eye? I just think there can be more time spent and it can make a huge difference.

Yes! You brought up the 60s and 70s lash before, and I think that was a time where style had a specific look, and mascara was such a key part of that. Those looks didn’t happen in one or two seconds, those women definitely took time to get to that look. They had their techniques and crafted it. I want to bring that back – enjoying the process of makeup and figuring out what your lash look is.

Yeah! For me right now the most exciting thing was going on holiday in Italy this summer and feeling that I really wanted to dress up. I had some friends there and that was the thing I was most looking forward to; being a woman who dresses up, and putting time into thinking about what my look was going to be, make-up included. I was so excited about that, because we haven’t done it in so long, and the Pool Slick Lash Lacquer was the start of it.
