If you’re anything like me, your approach to styling your hair is to not style it at all, avoiding all responsibility for the flat, oily, lacklustre look that often follows any and all styling attempts. Awesome. Having this approach means I end up washing my hair more often than it needs, which is the only solution to the unintentional wet look that comes with over-styling fine hair.

I’ve toyed with the idea of using a volumising spray to get the right amount of movement in my roots, but, having fine hair, it can be near impossible for me to find the right product that won’t weigh my hair down, or make it look too overdone. If this sounds like you, you’ll be happy to hear I went on a search for the perfect products on behalf of both of us, and was certainly not disappointed. See below.

Christophe Robin Instant Volumising Mist with Rose

One

There’s no way a product with the words ‘volume’ and ‘rose’ in its title will ever do me wrong, especially when that product is Christophe Robin’s Instant Volumising Mist with Rose. This leave-in care mist is an easy option when I need to do some last-minute styling, or freshen my hair in between washes. Its subtle, crisp fragrance and non-sticky formula mean it’s perfectly suited to fine hair, and adds the right amount of volume to my hair without it looking excessively glamorous.

Kérastase Paris Densifique Densimorphose Thickening Treatment Mousse

Two

Hyaluronic acid for my hair? I’m sold. This Kérastase Thickening Treatment Mousse creates natural volume without the weight of traditional mousses, while instantly improving the shine, texture, and suppleness of my hair. Like any mousse, the treatment is easily applied to dry or towel-dried hair, meaning I can apply it to suit my schedule.

2

Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion

Three

Delivering salt-spray waves without the dryness, the Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion is one I’m always reaching for. This miracle product has more benefits than I can count, some being its frizz control, nourishing power, and damage protection, as well as its defence against oxidative stress, photoaging, and the deterioration of natural keratin. If the packaging alone wasn’t enough to tempt me, I’m now fully convinced. I simply smooth it into my damp hair, forming waves and texture as I go.

Kérastase Paris Elixir Ultime Crème Fine

Four

Another Kérastase wonder product is the Elixir Ultime Crème Fine, which I adore for its delicate formula and unfaltering taming power. I like to think of this one as a day cream for my hair; I apply it once in the morning and throughout the day as required. Hello, lustre! I’ve missed you.

4

Ouai Haircare Hair Oil

Five

Four words: my bathroom’s resident multi-tasker. Said tasks include sealing my split ends, calming frizz, protecting my colour-treated hair, and heat protection. It also serves as an overnight hydrating mask, a definite bonus. Plus, have you ever heard such sexy ingredient names as African galanga, sweet almond oil, and Asian borage oils? Neither had I.

David Mallett Spray No. 2 Le Volume

Six

David Mallett’s Spray No. 2 Le Volume boasts another arousing ingredient lineup, with Japanese nori seaweed extract at its forefront. I like to think of this one as a tiny hair salon in a spray bottle, mainly because of its remedial benefits and luxurious packaging. Promising to revitalise, restore, and lift fine hair, Le Volume is as regenerative as it is French. I can’t get enough.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Urban Moisture Hydro-Nourishing Double Serum

Seven

A revolutionary product for us urbanites, Shu Uemura’s Urban Moisture Hydro-Nourishing Double Serum features a unique combination of two complex, complementary serums. Its protection against environmental stressors – including pollution, sun damage, harsh water, and dust — deem it an ideal candidate for a top spot in my bathroom cabinet. I simply apply it to my damp hair and style it to suit my look.
