“I have the most sensitive skin. The wind will make me breakout so everything I use is normally based on what doesn’t make my skin irritated. I use Cetaphil to cleanse and Weleda Skin Food to moisturise, morning and night. They are the two magic things I found keep my skin in a state of calm.”

“I was a stylist right out of college for a few years, then was recruited to go in-house at the label Reformation, was there for 6 years. I then started a men’s label with an ex, we broke up during and I left it with him. While doing the mens label I started consulting for other brands and working with my agent POOL which let me pursue all the things I am interested in. The whole time since I was 20 I have been in bands and making music. I have been painting since I was a small person and then a year ago decided to make serious steps to doing something with that and have put together three exhibitions.”

“My number one beauty hack: I have permanent purple under-eye bags. For puffiness, if you soak, then freeze, camomile tea bags and trest them on your eyes it really helps.”

On working in a multi-disciplinary way:

“I honestly don’t think about it until people mention it. To me making things is making things and taste is taste.  No matter what you do it’s essentially a similar message just in a different delivery.”

“Essentially anything I like doing I turn into a serious endeavour because I am constantly in terror I am not being productive enough. One of my friends told me it’s because I am an “over-achiever” but I think it’s more a constant struggle to prove myself worthy.  I think most artists are just battling insecurity by making work.”

On her favourite places in New York:

“My favourite places in New York are the empty ones, a museum on an off day or galleries during the week. Nature-wise, the botanical garden is unreal as is this little community garden on 6th street.”

On her perfect Sunday morning:

“What I would love to do is sleep and have someone bring me breakfast in bed.  What I actually do is normally meditate and then exercise, after coffee of course.”

“The most important part of my beauty routine in the morning is what I put in my coffee. I put reishi, chaga, cordecyps, and cacao into my coffee every morning which is an internal beauty routine. They balance your hormones and clean your system. Which makes you look nicer probably than anything you are putting on the outside. Internal things are even more important than external things.”

“I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It sounds trite but it’s true. It’s so subjective.  What I think is beautiful is anything I find visually interesting.”

“ I think of everything as an influence. I think everyday I see something that influences me.”

“I work out 4 to 6 times a week and mostly at home.  I took yoga and pilates for years, but I don’t like exercising with other people so I do it more when I am alone. I just do some standard yoga series and then all the pilates exercise that target whatever I need to work that day. I think meditation is the biggest form of self-care. I try to do that every day. “

On her personal style:

“Half little boy half dress up box?”

“I don’t do a lot of beauty treatments, but I probably should. I do, however, do a lot of face masks.”

“Anything my mother has given me. She goes to estate sales and finds me some pretty amazing stuff, like 1940s coats or a vintage Chanel purse. I also am really attached to some rings that were my grandmothers.”

“My hair is so easy! I wash it once to twice a week with all Aveda products. I don’t put any product in it other than shampoo and conditioner. I blow dry it after washing and curl it and then just sleep on it for days and it kind of stays the same. I brush it a lot because a healer in Costa Rica told me to do that to keep your energy clear. But that’s about it. I cut it myself and that takes ten minutes tops.”

“My mom is one of my favourite people. The best lesson from her was probably the fact that everything I do she thinks is great (even when it’s not) which means I’m never scared to take risks.”

“I wear amber perfumes. Sometimes I mix them with Jasmine oil. I am very very snobby about scents, so I try to find ones that don’t have the weird head-achey smell most scents have.”

“I love Oprah! But role model wise I don’t really have one. I always wanted a mentor but I unfortunately haven’t found one. I think I take bits and pieces from everyone I know. I have a group of women around me that help me, but not one specific person.”

“I can’t live without moisturiser. I have the driest skin so I would crumble to ashes with out it.”

“I’ve looked really similar since I was a teenager actually.  Sometimes it will be more feminine or less feminine but for the most part, it’s been consistent.”

On the perils of social media comparison:

“I mean I am so grateful to social media and also bored of it at the same time. One of my friends had the best quote “social media is a lie” and it is. It’s not anyone’s real life it’s their careful (even if it doesn’t seem that way) sharing of their life. It’s an edited life, so it’s make believe just a way to tell stories.  If you look at it like that then there isn’t anything to compare to.”
