As the temperature heats up and the days become balmy I long for colour on my lips but dream of being fancy free without having to watch what I eat or consider reapplication. Thankfully, it’s officially the summer of the lip stain. Lip stains aren’t necessarily a new addition to the beauty repertoire but the current formulas definitely are; sheer shades that give a juicy wash of colour and glossy finishes that fade to a subtle tint. Here is a curation of the best lip stains that will leave a most lovely mark.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tint, £37
This is effortlessly chic in every way. The tint feels light and hydrating in sheer, wearable colours with a natural finish and the packaging is satisfyingly weighty. I’ve been rotating shades Amour for an easy ‘your lips but better’ and Bisou for more depth and definition.
Give me a high-shine, comfortable gloss that feels more like a lip oil and leaves a beautiful stain of colour on your lips? Yes please, I reapplied this easily throughout the day switching between Rose de Moab for a natural tint and Bêtise for a little pop of colour.
Benefit Benetint, Dark Cherry 6ml, £23
This is the OG of lip tints, and for good reason, has stood the test of time. It gives the most perfect cherry stain that actually lasts, and adds a subtle and very pretty colour to the face. It is no wonder this product is having a resurgence and trending all over TikTok, and makeup bags everywhere.
Stila Calligraphy Lip Stain, £23
The brightest of stains here, this little pen packs a punch; a high dose of pigment with a matte finish. The slim point means you can line your lips with precision then easily fill in using the side of the nib, I wore the shade Margaret all night long as the perfect summer fuchsia.
This liquid formula feels so hydrating and the result is deliciously juicy, I layered Zesty Bestie over a brown lip liner for cherry cola lips that started glossy and then faded to a soft stain, an easy and wearable colour during a London heatwave.
RMS Liplights Cream Lip Gloss in Chameleon, £29
Whilst technically not a lip stain, I had to include this as it is a balm texture that tints your lips to a pretty shade of pink that’s perfect for your individual skin tone, adapting to your own pH as it develops. Nourishing with a lasting flush of colour the packaging is also 100% recycled aluminium so it feels good for the world as well as your lips.
I’m obsessed with the cool, tingling effect of this lip tint that gives a soft hit of colour with an even, natural matte finish. This delivers on the promise of transfer proof and long wear without compromising on comfort; I’ve been using the shade Natural Ginger as an alternative to a classic red lip and then Natural Sienna as a slightly deeper shade than my natural lip colour for when I need a bit of definition in one easy sweep.
