This was my first time at SHA Mexico, but not my first SHA experience. My journey with the clinic started more than ten years ago, back in Alicante, when I was in the thick of IVF cycles — physically exhausted, emotionally frayed, and desperate for some kind of reset. I needed space to breathe and to reconnect with my body. A few years later, I went back — unknowingly deep into perimenopause — anxious, bloated, and sleepless, trying to make sense of a body that no longer felt like mine.
Now, at 41, newly on hormone replacement therapy and still navigating the rough edges of this new hormonal terrain, I found myself at SHA’s new outpost in Costa Mujeres, Mexico. I wasn’t just looking for rest this time. I wanted to understand how to stay well, not just recover. I wanted tools — and maybe some clarity — to help me move through this chapter feeling strong, centered, and capable, especially as a mom to a six-year-old in a very full life.
This trip was different in another way: I wasn’t alone. My best friend Candice came with me. Having her there changed everything. We held space for each other — whether we were meditating, working out, or just lying in silence after a long treatment. There was laughter, too. A lot of it. That sense of shared intention — to heal, to grow, to be present — made the entire experience deeper.
SHA Mexico is striking. The minimalist, white-on-white architecture rises out of the mangroves like a modernist mirage. It’s quiet here and genuinely calming. I’d wake up early, thanks to jet lag, and sit on the balcony watching the ocean change colors with the sunrise. Those mornings became my favorite part of the day. There’s something about the stillness at SHA that gets under your skin — it’s subtle, intentional, and alive.
