What does Beauty mean to you?

Beauty is a feeling. Beauty is being unselfconscious. Beauty is looking at others with love.

On Skincare

There are a couple of work-horses in my cabinet:

I would be lost and dry without my Lait-Creme Concentre from Embryolisse, which I love to smooth on over a couple sprays of Rosewater & Glycerin from Heritage Store or a couple of drops of Eau Micellaire Biosenisble from Biologique Recherche.

Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin C Serum is a fave and I like Dr. Hauschka Eye Balm. It smells like health. I’m also devoted to Carmex chapstick.

I’ll do a splash of cold water on the face in the morning and wash my face at night with something sensible and mild like Cetaphil. I like the Omnilux because it makes me feel less anxious and like, I can’t say I’m not trying.

For exfoliating I really adore Dr. Dennis Gross Universal Daily Peel.  I will do that once a week or if I need an extra special pampering, I go for Joanna Vargas’ Exfoliating Mask. It really does something.

On Haircare

The internet just convinced me to order MaryRuth’s so we’re waiting on that delivery and I’m feeling hopeful.

I’m a Kevin Murphy girl, I’m a Prose girl, the T.L.C. Happy Scalp Scrub from Drunk Elephant is luscious as hell. I treasure my pretty Iris Hantverk hair brush.

On Make-up

The number one, I cannot live without and wouldn’t want to goes to: Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Foundation — it is all those things — by Giorgio Armani. Depending on the season I’ll use shade 5 or 4.5.  The best make-up tip I can offer anyone is just use less than you think you need.

Also in heavy rotation would be Chantecaille Base Pour les Yeux Nouvelle Generation in Light. This product is an eye shadow primer and makeup base meant to lay a nice foundation for whatever beautiful product comes next, but I guess a secret of mine is that I like to use it to brighten up the eyes and leave it at that.  It gives a really nice, pretty look to the eye and I love how much bang you get for something so seemingly unnoticeable.

Finally, something I truly love, Chanel’s Baume Essentiel. Please never go away.

On Health and Wellness

Lots of water! Magnesium, Vitamin B, Vitamin D, Vitamin C.  A friend just reminded me of the benefits of Fish Oil so going to work that in again. Meditation is good, they say. I try to give myself a good night’s sleep and have recently started keeping a dream journal. Another key aspect of my wellness philosophy are the beautiful relationships in my life and staying meaningfully connected to the people in my community. That’s happiness.

On Rituals

Especially at the moment, during the run of this play, I have been luxuriating in a weekly massage. My character ‘Jane’ is sort of living the worst day of her life. So having an hour or so a week to release some of that tension is something I’m consistently grateful for. I really like the steam room at my gym. I like taking walks in my neighborhood. I like watching Survivor with snacks in bed.

On Fragrance

My Aunt Courtney gave me a bottle of Petit Guerlain Eau de Toilette when I was 5 years old or something. She knew I would feel very adult, the bottle was so enchanting. It sat in a place of honor in my bathroom and never really moved. In fact it’s hardly ever been sprayed. It emblematizes a connection to girlhood and youthful fantasies of adult glamour.

Now, today, I adore fragrances and give much credit to my gorgeous aunts and my stunning mother who instilled an appreciation for smelling delicious. I love Diptique Oud Palao and Diptique Volutes.
