What does Beauty mean to you?

I don’t have a particular beauty philosophy. I like to look like myself in my healthiest, truest form. For my body to feel energetic and my mind to be clear are my primary goals; anything aesthetic comes after that.

On Skincare

To be honest, I travel so much that I don’t have a set routine. I’m half Chinese and can thank my genetics for the bulk of what my skin looks like. It doesn’t need much. Most of the time I use iS Clinical cleanser, I use both their Cleansing Complex and their Cream Cleanser. I switch between Environ AVIST 1 moisturizer or Augustinus Bader Rich Cream. I have the same routine for morning and night. If my skin is really dry, I’ll use the Biologique Recherché Masque Vernix. I’ll sleep in it and this mask is a game changer for long flights. I have a travel size Biologique Recherché P50 because I only use it a few times a month but it’s still a holy grail product. For my eyes it’s Chanel’s  No 1 de Chanel serum.

Since I’m between Paris and LA, I listen to my skin which is great in Paris and more irritated and problematic in LA. The dryness in LA causes my skin to need a bit more love so I use Avene tolerant cream, which I always run out of. I’m out of it now! The ocean helps a lot though. I’ve surfed since I was a kid and the salt water seems to heal all!

On Haircare

I have my Chinese ancestors to thank for my hair! I can use anything and my hair will be fine. I like the Biorgio Scalp Revival because it feels good especially in dry LA and Olaplex No 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner. I’ll do Phyto Keratine or Augustinus Bader Leave-In Hair Treatment if I’ve been surfing a lot. Paige Wishart cut my hair last week and gave me Oribe Matte Waves Texture Lotion which I’ve been using, so far, so good.

On Make-Up

MAC face and body foundation—I’ll do a drop of this in my moisturizer if I’m going to an event. Cle de pau concealer if I have a spot. I don’t cover my under eyes because it takes out the natural depth of your face. Same thing with foundation on and around the cheeks, I leave this area more bare. It’s always a Mac liner or Hermes lipstick. Right now I’m using Cork by Mac and 10 Brilliant Beige Croisette by Hermes. I line the lip, I never swipe the lipstick on, it’s always a dotting motion.

On Health and Wellness

Harmless Harvest coconut water, which I haven’t found in Paris sadly. Someone please import it! I swear by coconut water because it really hydrates your body. In the morning, I’ll put it in my coffee, usually cold brew and do equal parts with almond milk. I also drink bone broth most mornings before breakfast. I get mine in Australia from Best of the Bone, it’s a paste that you add boiling water to so it’s easy to travel with.

I don’t like to take supplements on an empty stomach, so I’ll take them with breakfast. I take Seed probiotics and I like the packets from Cymbiotika—magnesium (from whatever brand) and REM Sleep from HealthyCell at night if I’m jet lagged.

I see Amy from Flatiron Pilates when I’m in NYC. She’s incredible. It’s quality over quantity, not many reps etc. Sometimes we zoom since I don’t live in NYC anymore and it’s just as good.

In LA I see Arnold Chon. We do taekwondo and MMA together. He went to the Olympics for Taekwondo, is a stuntman and trains a lot of the actors for fight scenes in films, etc. We freestyle depending on what I want to learn, but I like a lot of the flying through the air kicks. I feel really powerful and untouchable when I’m training with Arnold.

On Fragrances

I’m selfish in this department and not going to share! I think scent is so personal, I don’t like to smell like anyone else. But I mix 2-3 fragrances.

Your Beauty secrets

I call it ‘a gentle smoke,’ I smudge brown eyeshadow with my fingers around my eyes if I’m going out at night. If I’m really going out out, I’ll do mascara with it, but this is rare. I use the Makeup by Mario palette (the medium cool toned brown in the 2nd row) and then would do a soft glide of the Hermes mascara in black. I don’t like brown mascara.

In Paris I see Elaine Huntzinger for facials–she looks at your tongue, does facial massage and full body acupuncture during your treatment. I’ve never seen anyone like her. My mother lives in LA, but Elaine feels like my Asian mommy in Paris. She really looks out for her clients.

In LA, I see Paige Wishart for my hair–she just gets it. I’ve never loved wearing my hair down, until I met Paige. The first time I met her she came to my room at Chateau Marmont to help me get ready for a Chanel show at Paramount Studios in LA and she put on Hilary Duff’s ‘Come Clean.’ She’s fun and totally cuts like that era. Paige also does makeup so I’ll have her cut, style and make my face up if I have something important while I’m in LA. But I don’t usually like makeup for events, I’m usually really bare and lazy.

In London I see anyone at 180 Health Club. My friend, Alex Eagle, has this dream of a place. The club has infared saunas, IV drips, Pilates classes, etc. I can spend the whole day there.

I also see Fatma at Skin Design London. She’s the founder and she’s Turkish. Since I used to live in Istanbul,  we’ll talk about how much we both love Turkish food and gossip. She’s who I’ll see if I want to look snatched.
