What does Beauty mean to you?

Beauty to me is simple, understated, elegant, and comfortable. I am such a creature of habit – so when I find the things that work for me, I stick to them pretty severely. I admire all facets of beauty, makeup, and skincare, but I feel that beauty is obviously so personal, and it is okay to stick to what you know and what makes you feel best. Sometimes I wish I were better at makeup or hair, but I leave that to the professionals and try to find what I can do best. I always find that beauty to me is about quiet confidence. I try to reflect that in my beauty routines; sticking to makeup that enhances my features and doesn’t cover up too much. I like natural skin poking through, even texture and lines. To me, lines are what show that we laugh, that we smile, that we cry, and live life. With everything I do, I just want to show the real me.

‘My number one fragrance, and has been for a while now, is Byredo’s Vanille Antique. It took me a while to find a signature scent and once I tried this one I got the most compliments I’ve ever gotten wearing a fragrance. It is true to my roots because I have always leaned toward vanilla scents, even growing up. I wear it daily. My boyfriend tells me it was “one of the many things” he fell in love with on our first date. Now when I wear it I think of him and us. It’s such a warm, beautiful scent.’

On Skincare

In the morning and night, I start with my Reflekt exfoliating cleanser. It is gentle but I find that for my skin type (which is quite normal, maybe oily in the t-zones) it helps me to lightly exfoliate morning and night. I feel like everything builds up after a long day and this cleanser helps that. I have been using it for years now and it never fails me. My morning routine is quite simple, and I am always striving for less is more. After cleansing I use Biossance squalane + omega repair cream (moisturizer) and classic Vaseline for my lips. Then LESSE’s SPF 30 daily to protect my skin for the day. That’s it.

For evening, I also start with the Reflekt exfoliating cleanser. I usually wear mascara (or eyeliner if going out) in the evenings so after cleansing I will use an eye makeup remover for my eyes and to ensure that all makeup is cleansed from my face. Then I use Paula’s Choice BHA Toner on a cotton pad all over the skin. That is another product I have been using for years and always trust. It has completely minimized my pores and gives a porcelain healthiness to my skin. A product I love but that is a little unnecessary is Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir spray. I use this as a ‘break’ in my routine, to return moisture to the skin, and let it breathe as I brush my teeth. Then I go back in with Biossance’s squalane +  omega moisturizer which I use in the morning. After moisturizing I use Biossance’s squalane oil all over my face and neck. It seals in that moisture and I am just completely in love with squalane at the moment. Then more lip moisturizing with Vaseline and we’re done.

On Haircare

I continuously dye my hair to be very light blonde, so hair care has become very important to me. To keep my hair from looking brassy, I use Olaplex’s blonde enhancing toner shampoo and conditioner consistently. If I feel like my hair has a build-up, I use Shu Uemura’s clarifying shampoo – maybe once a week. Weekly, I’ll use Olaplex’s bond intense moisture mask or Oribe’s glass hair treatment. Outside of the shower, once I let my hair dry naturally, I will use Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse to keep my hair moisturized and shiny. I try to lay off using heat too much to let my hair thrive naturally as much as possible.

On Make-up

I am a huge Victoria Beckham beauty lover, and her lip definer pencil in shade #2 has become my go-to. I always want my lips to have that natural flush and color to them, and this product does just that. If I need to wear foundation, which I do limit just to let my skin breathe on the daily, I love the Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation. I know it’s such a cult favorite and I’ve used it for years and totally on that train and don’t see myself getting off anytime soon! I also really love CHANEL’s Cheek and Lip Balm. It’s so pigmented and I use the ‘berry boost’ shade for a perfect, natural-looking flush.

On Health and Wellness

If I’m being honest, health is something I have not quite mastered yet and what I want to really focus on this upcoming year. I have cut down on drinking and smoking significantly and want to make it to a point eventually where I don’t do either. Having collagen in my coffee has been a nice little ritual and I am sure to hydrate consistently and listen to my body during the day. I love to nourish myself with fruit, yogurt, avocado, olives, cheese, all of the things my body loves and craves. I am more focused on taking care of my mental health than my physical health at the moment, but I hope to find the perfect balance soon. To keep myself mentally healthy I write and read a lot. I spend a lot of time off my phone actually, more than people may think.

On Rituals

When I walk my dog I listen to music and absorb nature and the environment around me, taking quiet time for myself. Once a week I try to take baths and recenter myself completely. I try to go grocery shopping and walk everywhere as much as I possibly can. I find that grocery shopping of course helps so much, rather than going out to eat all the time. Also, it is so important to be consistently thankful. I am always talking to the higher power and thanking them for my life. That has become a really important ritual for me.

On Fragrance

My number one fragrance, and has been for a while now, is Byredo’s Vanille Antique. It’s such a warm, beautiful scent. I also love Officine Universelle Buly’s Mexique Tuberose scent. It is light, summery, and smells like lilies to me. Another great, new one that I have fallen in love with is Hermès Barénia perfume. A little bit spicy, but sexy, and wearable for every day.

Your Beauty Secrets

No matter what, you will shine if you feel like yourself and take care of yourself. I try not to go overboard and don’t challenge myself too much because I always end up liking the simpler things. When I overdo it, I always regret it.
