Athena Paginton is very clever at emphasising natural beauty in people. The cruelty-free makeup artist and illustrator champions green beauty brands, and, while she keeps it simple when it comes to her own face, espouses experimentation and maximalism when it comes to her craft.

The London-based legend’s work has improved the pages of such publications as Wonderland, Dazed, Buffalo Zine, and Wallpaper Magazine, so it’s little wonder she was recently signed to Byrant Artists. To celebrate that huge feat, we took a tour through her cabinets and emerged way more conscious of the stuff we put on our own faces. Thanks, Athena!

Lush Yuzu And Cocoa Shower Cream

“As a makeup artist who is cruelty-free, being able to support Lush, who is fighting against animal testing, is brilliant! Along with the added bonus of smelling like chocolate oranges after using this product, what more could you ask for?”

Fat And The Moon Calm Kid Mist

My go-to for a perfect night of beauty sleep!”

2

Pai Chamomile & Rosehip Calming Day Cream

“I discovered Pai a few years ago, and haven’t looked back since. They’re based and made in London (which means zero air miles). This is actually the only moisturiser I can use on myself due to my sensitive skin, and I’m so thankful for it!”

3

Green People Gentle Cleanse & Makeup Remover

Green People is the most ethical beauty brand I’ve come across. It has helped shape laws defining organic ingredients, and also donates 10% of its net profits to charity. Green People is creating a positive change, which is something I love to talk and raise awareness about!”

4

Lucas' Papaw Ointment

“For my kit (as every makeup artist knows), Lucas’ Papaw is a #1 must-have, though it keeps finding its way into my personal stash… I mostly prefer to go without makeup, or to keep it extremely minimal, which is when I like to use Papaw. I not only use it on my lips, but as a highlighter on my cheekbones and on my eyelids, too.”

S5 Nourish Cleanser

“I swear by rosehip oil, which is a key ingredient in S5’s Nourish Cleanser, so there’s no doubt it plays a solid part of my morning routine. The cleanser heats up as you apply it. A mini facial is the right way to start your day!”
